MPN 2015

Abstract

The MPN's main objectives are to establish short-run and long-run dynamics in travel behaviour of individuals and households, and to determine how changes in personal and household characteristics and in other travel-related factors (e.g. economic crisis, reduced taxes on sustainable transport, changes in land-use or increased availability and use of ICT) correlate with changes in travel behaviour.

Questions

Questionnaire: Mpn_diary

The travel data of the MPN are collected via location-based travel diaries, completed online, in which the respondents enter information about locations, activities and the associated trip-segments and trips. The collected diary data are questioned to the respondents in a specific order – the so-called ‘routing’ (find a detailed description of the routing here). In order to obtain the desired trip data, the acquired data are processed. The answers to the questions from ‘Questionnaire Mpn_diary’ are the input for the processing; the processing step results in the variables found in the data sets. Most answers do not correspond one-to-one with the variables found in the data sets. Questionnaire: Mpn_household

The household questionnaire is used to determine household characteristics, such as: composition of household, main wage-earner, annual gross household income, ownership of desktop computers and laptops, transport vehicles owned by a household, car details (licence plate number, annual mileage, main user), car parking facilities in the residential area.

Questionnaire: Mpn_personal

The personal questionnaire is used to determine personal characteristics, such as: age, gender, monthly salary, motherland of the respondent and of his or hers father and mother, number of contracted working hours, number of average working hours in practice, type of work and workplace, travel costs subsidies, driving licence, type of travel cards and transport vehicle availability, preferred mode of transport, valuation of transport facilities and traffic conditions in the neighbourhood, access to, and use of, Internet facilities, even years: preferences towards car ownership and use, the environment, the economy and housing location, odd years: the impact of ICT use on mobility for working the impact of ICT use on mobility for shopping or the impact of social media on social networks and on mobility for social activities.
